2005 Client Demographics
Access to Care® served nearly 14,000 individuals in 2005.  Since the programs inception in 1988 over 82,000 people have received primary health care services through Access to Care®.
Published reports indicate that there are 44 million uninsured Americans. Almost 350,0000 of them live in suburban Cook County.
Females represented 61% of Access to Care® clients which continued the trend of a higher enrollment rate for women.
The largest family size of Access to Clients in 2005 was single adults, at 42% of the total population. Access to Care is the only medical program available to single adults, as they are categorically ineligible for Medicaid unless they are permanently disabled or pregnant.The Most Frequent Family Sizes in 2005 were:

Access to Care experienced a continued decline in the number of eligible children as a result
of KidCare. The number of children has steadily decreased since 1998 when 27.5% of program
clients were under age 19. In 2005, 9.5% of eligible clients were children.

Over 63% of Access to Care clients lived in a household where someone was working
and still lacked health insurance indicating that employment does not guarantee health benefits.
An increase in the number of unemployed clients was recorded in
2005 (30.8%). This is the largest percentage of unemployed clients since program inception.
