The Suburban Primary Health Care Council Mission

The mission of the Suburban Primary Health Care Council is to facilitate access to primary health care for residents of suburban Cook County and Chicago residents who live west of Pulaski Road AND north of North Avenue, who lack such access because of financial barriers.

The Suburban Primary Health Care Council is a not-for-profit corporation that administers the Access to Care® program.  The Council was formed in 1988 by a confederation of the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County, Inc., the Cook County Department of Public Health, the Northwest Suburban Cook County Health Care Task Force and the Park Forest Health Department.

The Council is funded by both public and private sources.  The Council's primary sources of funding are the Cook County Board of Commissioners and the State of Illinois. The Council also receives funding from townships, municipalities, private foundations and individuals. In-kind services and discounts are provided by a network of Access to Care® physicians, hospitals, commercial laboratories and Walgreens.
